Can anyone confirm whether the 2006 Facelift models without Cabasse have CANbus?

I see posts on here talking about a 6 wire canbus connector, but I'm at a complete loss to understand how this would allow a headunit to interface to the speakers. I understand the interfaces to the display and the steering wheel controls, but how would it deal with speakers.

In the ones with the Cabasse unit I can imagine you'd have low level outputs going to the amp in the back.

Looking here doesn't help much either. I can't see any way canbus can carry audio apart from maybe digitally.

So my question is if the non Cabasse models have the same connector do they have an amp in the boot? If not do the speakers run directly from the headunit?

Ah found this now at InCartec: http://www.incartec.co.uk/Resources/new29_800.pdf which looks like its just the stalk and display interface. Can anyone do a picture of the back of a renault headunit?

Ta mate, so the standard "4 x 15w single CD / MP3 compatible RDS radio with fingertip control" on current models has an ISO connector?

I've seen posts of retrofitting wiring and I really hate doing that for speakers

The current model, has a normal ISO connector but is still incompatable with the stalk and display adapter.

Apparently any Update List radio is classed as CAN Bus, even though it has a normal ISO. So it can be swapped for any normal CD/Tuner/MP3 player etc.

My Meggy is an October '05 and it came with an update list tuner, which I have changed to an Alpine MP3 player but the steering controls are supposed to be hit and miss so I'm waiting till they develop a one that works before I commit myself.

Mate, its easy to take it out, go into halfords and spend £2,99 on some keys, normally at the back of the store in a glass cabinet with all of the audio,

look like this U U

You'll get 2 of them, pus them in the holes and the radio will come out and you'll see what the radio looks like on the back.

Then to put it back take the keys out and push it back in!

any results yet ?

i will be wanting an aftermarket unit seen as im going for the basic 15w x 4 mps/cd unit.

also are the speakers the same for audiotorium 4 x 40w cd/changer upgrade or is it just a more powerfull amp, cd changer and slighty improved unit ?
i.e if i replace with a decent HU will i get better sound as speakers are the same ?

My Trophy has the Cabasse upgrade radio and 6 CD player, and whilst it is OK, it is by no means a good system, when considering that the Amp is supposed tp be 40w per channel, it distorts badly when you really crank the sound up.

So, if the speakers are the same as are used in the standard Meg audio set up, then they're certainly not very good.

Hopefully when a suitable wiring link is available I can change to a better aftermarket unit, amp and speakers.

denty225 asked 06 model stereo

I was looking at the new model 225 and want to know if the standard fit mp3 player can be changed for an aftermarket one?

Allen Collen responds Obviously it can be switched for anything, but these will work with the fingertip controls (Sony Renault Acessories are compatible): Sony CDX GT 30RN Sony CDX GT 300 S (4x50 Multi +MP3) Sony CDX GT 700 D (4x62 Multi +MP3) Regards,

I think the best question would have been "IS IT ISO OR CANBUS" the answer is correct as yes you could add some new wiring but would be nice to know if it was canbus or not.
