Spoke to Renault today they have found the problem after stripping the box..

The problem is between 5th and 6th something to do with the synchro.. Now if that's broken surely I should of been able to select 1st 2nd 3rd 4th??

The best is yet to come, asking what could of caused this problem, they told me I have been forcing it it to 5th or 6th gear, Causing the damaged!!

I have explained before what happened, but will refresh: driving along in 5th, clutch down to go into 6th wouldn't select(felt really stiff), so back into 5th, slowed down a little and dropped it into 4th(no problem), so tried 5th which now felt the same as 6th(jammed) back into 4th which has now also jammed.. Every gear is now jammed and can only move the gear stick left to right!!

A little force was used when I couldn't select 5th, but with the clutch down and I think anybody else would do the same!!

Renault have now taken pictures and Have sent them down to there warranty department to look over!!

I feel that Renault are massively trying to pull a fast 1 and there's **** all I can do about it!!

They sound like knobs. Think the system that stops the box selecting 2 gears at once has failed and its locked in two gears

Keep talking to RUK. After all they're the ones that will be paying, not the dealer, so you need them on side.

The gearbox isn't the greatest out there, so I'm sure anyone would have done what you did to get it into 5th, but it really should not have failed at this age.

Sounds like the 5th and 6th gear hub is shagged.

If the car is in warranty get them to replace it for nothing.

If not, get the box reconditioned. Give me a PM if you need it done.

They have rang me this morning to tell me the great news that the gearbox needs replacing at the cost of £3000!!

They are waiting to hear back from there warranty people so we can talk about contributing!!

I have spike to a number of gear box specialists and they have all come back with you wouldn't be able to tell if it has been forced or not!! I'm thinking of getting a independent gearbox specialist to go down and have a look and write a report.

To me this is a product failure and not driver fault!! There just using this as a way out with it being out of its warranty, 3.7 years old 33k on the clock!!

What do you lot think/recommend?

Just spoke to them, after telling them I wanted the pictures and reports they have come back within 2hrs and offered me 65% and that is final!!

They also changed there tune saying they didn't think I had caused the damage, but possibly a pervious owner and there is damage to gears 1 and 2 as well as 5/6, Surely if that was the case the gearbox would of failed then??

So now I'm thinking of speaking to some1 higher and asking them why the have changed there story and I still want the pictures etc?

Is it worth pushing for more or should I be happy??

If a salesman told you that 'your roof needs replaced' would you blindly accept what he's saying as gospel and pay the money.... or would you ask to see WHY it needed replaced????

Exactly.. get the pictures and stop mesisng about!!!

Spoke again this morning, told them that I wasn't happy with the 65%, that I would be happy for them to meet in the middle, to up there part another 10%.. Was meet with a sharp NO WAY, this problem is caused down to driver error!! I have told them to keep the car at the garage and I am not accepting there offer..

It's another £300 on there part(peanuts) but £300 is better in my pocket than there's

Thoughts??

i got mine free under warranty - there was no mention of how or why it broke and no questions asked - seems weird that they are so adamant its caused by driver error when there are a number of people now with exactly the same problem over the last couple of years - obviously an issue with some of them
