You'd better wait because in March 2012 there will be a facelift of the Megane with all the trophy specifications...And I was also informed they will make a special edition from the new Megane like the R26R.They are already testing it......

Wow,exactly what i thought when i saw the words "Don't believe the hype".

And i know a person who works for RenaultSport too, last time i meet him he told me nothing about the Megane, but said that a new Clio is in developement,i might think it's a "r26.r" like version of the 200.

A facelift is on the way. That's not the bit I doubt. It's the .R speculation. As someone who has spent many years working with teams within manufacturers developing new product I have learnt that those who speak about new developments generally don't know about them. As those that do are paid to keep quiet and mouthing off is enough to see you out of a job.

So do you have any info when the "250.R" car might be released? I really hope they make it, been out to look at a few caymans / nobles as a replacement for the R26 but would be really interested in a stripped 250.

Time will tell, But I for one am not expecting anything in the new year. OR next year for that matter. And given how much they lost on the project last time and how much they're loosing in the UK (one of two of their biggest markets in Europe for such things) I can't see it for a long time (if at all). I'm at Geneva for the car show (working) so I expect to be shooting the facelift.

Buy one and strip one then.

Its tempting, but a less exciting proposition than an official RS stripped model for two reasons:

1.) Insurance is much more of a hassle for modified cars than it is for standard factory cars (unless you qualify for classic / specialist insurance like you would on a 964 RS replica for example). Stripping + caging is something I would certainly declare.
2.) I could strip and put a half cage in my R26, but that wouldn't add all the appeal and experience of a .R - wouldn't have the tweaked suspension, seats, harnesses, ti-exaust etc.

Insuring an .R with a 3k factory fitted exhaust and a half cage to declare can be quite a task in itself I can tell you. Remember just because its factory doesn't mean most insurers don't see it as a "modification" that needs to be declared...... A lot of modern insurers require factory options to be declared and yet will refuse to cover them all the same.

1. There is a facelift Megane in 2012 that is correct (not March though)
2. It will not have all the Trophy specifications
3. Absolute rubbish

If you go for a cayman make it a top spec S I had the 2.7 and although a nice car was a little dissapointing!

Thanks, I had a good run in my dad's boxster s (3.2) two days ago, I would definitely be after an s. It didn't feel much faster in a straight line (a good chunk down on torque even if it makes more power at the top end), gorgeous noise though!
