this is what I've done with my stereo since I've had the car
Standard setup = crap
Add sub to standard setup = not too bad
Replace head unit =
All I have in mine is a sony HU and a little kenwood 300w amp running a single kenny 12" boxed sub and its just enough I think. Will replace the front speakers at some point as the standard ones wont take much bass but they are a bit better than the ones I replaced in my old 172
