My Renaultsport pulling to the left - all the time

Hi all,

im a newbie, and loving the site!

Driving a 175 lux on a 57 plate. Had it a month now and love it. Best car ive ever had. Much better than the Mk2 Focus 2.0 petrol i had before.

However the Renault dealership i purchased it from in London has much to be desired. Infact useless comes to mind!

Anyway so the problem i have is it keeps pulling to the left pretty much all the time, when coasting, accelerating, on a camber not on a camber. Its becoming frustrating. Its been back into them 6 times and still they havent managed to findout whats wrong.

They have tried rebalancing, tracking, resetting the steering rack, different tyres, different wheels, swapping the wheels around still to no avail!!

I have had a quick look on the old forums and I have seen people talking about hub problems (seizing up), which could sound like the answer. However on a year old car would this be a problem?

I have said to Renault now, if its not fixed this time the're having the car back and finding me another!! :headbang:

Is there anyone out there that can help solve mine and Renault's problem :D

look forward to hearing from you all.

our 197 has pulled to the left from the day we picked it up (it only had 9 miles on it). I have had the tracking checked several times and its always been fine. After speaking to Icarus I am going to get the anti roll bar checked as it may have some preload on it. Icarus wrote a very interesting thread on anti roll bars so do a search on here if you want to have a read.

Mine pulls to the left a bit as well, Iv only had it a week and assumed it was maybe the tracking or something tyre related.

Striken please post up details if you manage to get it sorted m8. Im gonna have a look at mine this weekend so il reply if I get it sorted.

My R26.R pulls to the left noticeably from new, as did my first R26 from new, which I thought was an issue (as I was new to Meganes) so tried laser aligning it which didn't help). From reading many posts on the subject, it appears most do. Someone, I guarantee, will come on here and say something along the lines of 'all cars are set up to pull to the left', but in the Megane it's definitely a more noticeable thing than other cars, i've found.

Sounds like its a common problem then! I agree with Arun its definately not a "all cars set up to pull left" problem or an exagerated problem with the large 18 inch wheels. My Focus had 18ins and that drove straight!!

With the 175 when i try to centralise the steering wheel it will always try and pull to the left again. When the head mechanic and the salesman took out my car they both agreed it shouldn't be pulling this much. The salesman even has a Megane 150 and said his drives in a straight line nothing like the extreme of mine.

Mine also pulls to left and few others I know of.

It does also get worse as the tyres wear. Since i've had new tyres it's been a little better.

I have also noticed the passenger side rear tyre likes to wear out quicker also.

mine has done it since the day i picked it up i found if you give the breaks a good clean just to get the left over break dust off the discs and from around the calipers it seems to help.

had mine tracked 3 times now and it shows that its straight and true but still pulls just something you have to live with i think.

ive not noticed any uneven tyre wear either so cant see it causing any major damage.

Hi JimmyJ. Got it from the Ilford one, Renault Retail Group East London they call themselves!! Havent heard great things about them from other friends that have Renaults. They have told me the best guys around my area seem to be the smaller Renault Minute guys at Theydon Bois!!

Wow, cant believe how many of you have the same problem. I mean mine is terrible to drive, you literally cant take your hand off the steering wheel for longer than 2 secs before its taking you into the crash barrier!! (camber or no camber in road) It also has brand spanking new Continetal Sport Contact 3's on it!!! So im sure it should be tracking better than it is!!

Mine has started doing it today but only after I had new tyres and the tracking done. It feels as though someone is grabbing the wheel and steering towards the kerb if you let go of the wheel, it's that fierce. Gonna take it back to the tyre place tomorrow and see if they have knackered something.

although a lot seem to pull from what i have read - they shouldnt do that.

Bought mine from new and its staright as a die. you can let go for ages and on a sever change in camber or a bump will send it off a little.

just be sure to take it to a specialist alignment centre and not some ats type place with some berk with half a clue setting it up.

ideally it needs to be set up on a hunter laser alignment set by someone experienced - even if your toe in toe out is withing spec it can be made to pull by caster and camber angles front or rear.

A full setup and sdjustment would cost around 95 - 140 quid. best money you will spend

This is all great stuff thanks!! However im now in furious discusions with Renault. Its been in so many times for to try and be fixed that its becoming stupid. Luckily its happened early on, so they are trying to sort it out!! If it comes to it, they have to find me a new one under their guarentee! Thinking of maybe opting for the Cup if this happens?!?! Any worthwhile differences? Is it easy to live with day to day?

If it helps my previous meg -225 didn't always pull to the left. It started doing it and it was reasonably dangerously pulling aswell - if that makes sense. Guess what i'm trying to say is that i'm hoping that if it is the seized hub problem it would start pulling, not always pull.
