Has anyone heard, or can give more detail on, the news that from 2012 all post '92 vehicles that had a factory cat fitted must still have said cat fitted to pass an MOT regardless of the emissions figures?
Obviously the Megane cat is not in a easy place to spot anyway but just wondering for after market stuff. How strict is this going to be?

i faild the other day for both emissions and haveing the cat removed, shouldnt make any differnce really if its decat its going to fail regardless really as the emissions will fail, same as always get a mate to pass it lol.

What about having a cat fitted but not in the original location?......unfortunately not all of us have "mates" in the right places.

Cat must be fitted to cars after 1994> and must be in factory location. They can also now fail the car on nonstandard noise, so any loud exhausts, dump valves, etc can fail....depending on how strict your mot person is.
They have also included engine management lights on at time of test Is a straight fail.

Thanks - makes me wonder if it's worth bothering with any changes. Doesn't add up to spend on "improvements" to fail the test.

I have the list of changes (7 pages) and a lot of it isn't clear.

There is a lot of testers out there that will pass the without a cat, for a small fee...

There is new rules on:
blue tint look headlights
All lights must work with the single operation of 1 switch
Driveshaft support bearings
Headlamp self levelling on hid lights
Dust cover for steering and suspension ball joints
Broken coil springs might not fail now
Inappropriate modifications or repairs to supension or steering
Inappropriate modifications or repairs to braking system including abs
New way of calculating brake performance
All drivers seats must beable to slide back and forth (no fixed subframes)
Esc slights not operating correctly is a fail
Power steering malfunction light on is a fail
Tyre pressure monitoring system rules have changed

Then obviously the exhaust laws have changed.
There is loads of other rules to do with lights illuminating correctly, but can't see if affecting a lot of cars.
