Hi Guys,
new to the forum here and was after some advice.

I used to own a fiesta ST until it sadly died on me, so as a stopgap I picked up an 03 1.6 Dynamique megane. a bit rubbish performance wise but in all, I am quite impressed with the car and its features, just wish it had the performance too!

I was saving some cash up to get an EP3 Civic Type R but I have kind of fallen for the megane a little.

going out this weekend to see if i can test drive a standard 225 as these can be had for circa £4k [around my budget for a civic anyway]
but many posts i have read here and elsewhere suggest that a cup pack is important to have.

i understand that the cup pack gives you better suspension and will see for myself once i drive both flavours of RS225 but ideally i would like some advice on what to look for

am i correct in thinking that anything with the blocky style alloys is not cup packed?

how does one go about spotting a cup packed car?

is a cup pack worth saving the extra £500-£1k over a standard 225?

is a cup pack only available on the newer facelift models or is it an optional extra on the standard 225?

can anyone please tell me the exact difference that the cup pack offers?
a list or link would be very helpful.

any help is much appreciated

Yeah I'd say go for a trophy!

Well I would as I have one lol

Seriously tho trophy is your best bet for your budget, it has extra toys the cup had not.

Theres a link on here somewhere that will give you the spec difference.

thanks Budgiestongue have searched around, was just looking for a specific set of differences tbh

I thought that the trophy was a ltd edition?

why would a trophy be closer to my budget?

I was really looking as to opinions on cup packs and what they offer over a standard 225? does it totally transform the car or is the ride much stiffer

trying to search around for the spec differences.

i take it the trophy has the cup suspension and the brembo brakes etc?

Cup packed 225 is the same car without paying the extra for a limited edition if budget is an issue. Just be aware there are a lot of dogs out there so choose carefully at this price bracket if you don't want a world of pain.

I've got a ph1 inferno 225 with brembo's full leather and digital climate control. Although the trophys are nice I couldn't afford one with having 3month old son I chose the ph1, yeah their is some dogs out their that are in **** condition but I managed to get a decent one for just over 4k, yeah the coil pack went the day after which gutted me but reading this site it's a common fault on any spec 225 I believe rightly? But know I love it, fell in love with it more with short shift linkage fitted but as it stands it's a really great car. So if budgets is tight scout around for a looked after one.

so am i correct in thinking the main giveaway of a cup pack is that it has brembo calipers?

can you just get a PH1 225 with a cup pack upgrade?

ah ok,

is the cup chassis that much of a requirement? or is it something you need to be able to enjoy the car.

I like the raw handling capability of the civic, i want something similar in the megane.

right your budget is a ph1 car, get the best you can afford as said theres lots of dogs.
cup came after late 05 plate, basically the cup packs first came in on the trophy.
the cup has drilled discs all round and multispoke wheel in grey the brembos didnt go red under late 2006 iirc
make sure it has service history with the cambelt being done ideally by a specialist or a dealer.
clutches are slightly weak also so make sure you test the car under load.
