Power Steering Problem

2855 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  asmith225
I seem to be having a problem with my power steering. When i turn the steering wheel sharply or quickly, it becomes extremely heavy, as if its not working. Ive checked the power steering fluid and all appears ok.

It only seems to be at low speed, ie when i manouvered into a parking space.

Anyone else had this problem?

it does it to stop the motor from burning it self out, my ali had the same prob with her astra, got real heavy wen turning into a car park space
I thought it strange as it has never done it before and hasn't really done it again since.
I wonder if the cold weather is has anything to do with it?

i seem to have a different problem everyday at the minute, must be the cold and damp conditions!

Possibly as when it did it, it had only been running for a few minutes after standing cold for a day.
I have had:

*cruise come on of its own accord
*button on handle failing to lock car
*check ignition warning
*Toxic fume light on most of the time
*alarm sounds when locking boot has to be opened and shut

But like jim careys attitude in 'Liar, Liar'
I'll get nowhere with renno so i may aswell just stand here and take it up the ***!

Hate to tell you this but I'm a support technician at the production facility where youre Megane's EPS contoller was made. Wouldnt surprise me if theres a fault with the module as weve had some major customer returns just lately.........not that I want to worry you or anything

Dave, there is no power steering fluid, so I don't know what you were checking

Anyway all Megane II's use Electrical Power assisted steering, and as with technology comes failures, the Column is not an uncommon one either.. Take it to your dealer for diagnosis..
  I don't know what i was checking either

Ill get it booked in.
