Hi all,

I'm looking at these oils due to a few problems with gear shifting when the car is cold:

This one says MTL, MT-85 & MT-90 are not for use in differentials with hypoid gears:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1019-redline-synthetic-manual-transmission-lubricant-70w-80-gl4.aspx

This one seems to mention it is for use in limited-slip differentials:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1015-re...r-oil-75w-85-formerly-lightweight-75w-80.aspx

Is the first link referring to the diff that the R26 has? Will the oil in the first link be suitable?

And, is it about 3.2 litres that the gearbox needs?

Any help would be great.

Regards
Jp

Hi Jp

There isn't an oil that is 100% ideal for the gearbox and LSD. The MTL is the one I'd go for as it should make the gear shifts easier, but it won't last as long as the diff oil. A good one to try is the Fuchs Sintofluid 75w-80. It's ideal for the gearbox and with normal diffs and should last a bit longer than the MTL as it's a GL5 oil rather than GL4.

Ah - hi Tim! I think I sent you a message directly the other day on your website. I just needed a bit more info regarding the specifics, so I thought I'd post here - and here you are!

It's great to know about the recommendation for the gearbox and the diff. And that oil is a lot cheaper too, so thank you!

Does anyone know about the amount of oil needed ?

The Fuchs is a real bargain at the moment and a really good oil, not trying to take a sale away from Redline, I just think it might be more suited to your car. Not certain on the capacity, our database doesn't list the R26, but it lists the other Renaultsports at 2.1L. Not sure if that helps.

Cheers

I just changed mine. It took exactly 2L and 150gr. to fill up.

Its fairly easy if you can get underneath the car. I used the elf oil, and I plan to change it once a year from now on.

I read on the german forum that the gearbox oil in the megane sport is not planned to be changed ever (lifetime usage)

Annoying, so it requires 3 x 1 litre bottles. Would have been good if it was 2 litres exactly!!
