Hi. Just got Cars April issue under my door...

Interesting comments by Patrick Pelata (Renaut New product chief)

"The Megane's design was not the best we could have done. The polarising design was styled for the boss or design contests rather than for the consumer"

Poor patrick le quement... Wonder if the BK in Dieppe is hiring...

What do you think?

I think in genral the megane has been very popular, theres 100s of the other models on the road its just the 225 that a bit, erm niche shall we say lol Its not like a fiat multipla or anything, it would be a shame if renault just dumbed the megane down because it was to daring....

yea i got that mag and was diapointed at his comments.. its like reno are confirming the megane looks dump as well as everyone else has been saying. at least they could have respected their customers and claimed it was inovative and different, top marks for honesty but id prefer it if the car i was about to purchase wasnt accepted by the very designer to be a fassion fauxpar :(

why spend all that money on advertising "shakin that ass" and then go on record saying its a pile of crap ??

he should be fired

what I dont understand is how it can be deemed any kind of failure when its one of the most popular cars on the road? They must have sold thousands of every other model than the 225, just because the motoring press didnt like the 225 I just dont see why it makes the whole range a flop?

Pelata's opinion is Pelatas opinion. He is product chief but he is still ONE man who made public his opinion, well qualified, top job, top salary, but still one man. The same can be applied to Le Quement, it was his role to take the risk and he took it. with the Megane MkII (which is and was infinitely superiror to the lame Megane Mk I)

I can see why a lot of people might not like the Megane MkII but it does not bother me really... I dont agree on being different just for the sake of it, I believe in being different when one appreciates x, y or z features or qualities and they happen to be different from the rest... I guess that is why I went for it and not for a Focus.
