I'm gradually falling out of love with my car, don't get me wrong it's a great car to have fun in but the small niggly things are pissing me off big time.

- The car has pulled left ever since i've got it. Neither independant garages or franchised dealers can stop it from doing so. This is causing uneven tyre wear.

- The valves on the tyre pressure sensors are too weak and break easily. Almost £100 to sort out.

- The toxic fume light always comes on at when the car is at standstill or moving slowly in traffic. Been to Renault 3 times already about this, today I got the ASR system fault message.

- Today when getting my brake pads changed my the one of the pins snapped as it had seized. £33 pounds for a new set of pins.

- The both headlight bulbs blew at the same time. Cost me 70 quid to have these replaced as I couldn't do this myself being stuck in Cumbria when pitch black, Gladly the local dealer was kind enough to come out.

- The left and right indicators have gone on separate occasions. This not down to the bulb, there is a loose connection on the socket. If its taken out and put back in it starts to work again.

The brake pads today I think maybe it's the final straw. Had a Seat Leon Cupra with 90k on the clock which was far more reliable than a 1 year old megane.

I see there is a 2.5 year old 350z up for 18k, May go for that.

The only trouble I'll have is that I'll have to sell the car for cash as it's fully paid for and I can't really afford any more monthly outgoing at the moment.

So my idea is sell the car for cash, 11.5 to 12k. (54 Plate inferno with 20k on the clock). Then use the cash to pay the monthly payments which will take me up to 2/3's of the loan payment, by then my income will have improved dramatically and will be able to afford the payments.

Sorry to hear of you problems matey. My opinion is that from time to time you get a 1 bad car out of so many not sure why but I had a simuler problem with my other Megane I must have taken that reno around 20 times in 6 months for different faults. In the end the car got written off and even though I was gutted I was releved at the same time. I have had to mazor faults with my 225 apart from a vibrateing speaker cover.

Mark.......have you even spoken to RUK's customer services about this problem?

surely if your having so many repeat issues you should be speaking to the customer services department at maple cross.

Yes your car can be looked at through a dealer but alftersales is also covered by renaults customer services department.

Give it a shot.

No I haven't as yet but what can Renault CS offer to me if I do? Sounds a bit of a naive thing to say, but won't it just be ok we'll have a look at it again for you.

I've lost all confidence in the car if i'm honest and probably won't be happy again until I've got something else on my drive.

We have 3 renaults in the family all purchased brand new.

Grandad's Scenic required a new engine after 750 miles.

Sisters Clio as of today requires a new engine.

My Megane is basically fucked too.

Thats says it all about the reliability of the cars they are knocking out. Renault won't be recieving any future purchases from our family.

I cant speak personally but i do know that renaults customer services try their best to work with the dealers etc to try and deal with problems.

Are you sure you dont live in the bermuda triangle :p

I would try the customer services route first, I'm sure it will be an annoying process but its got to be better than loosing all that money.

To be fair I've had these little niggle problems too first with my 172 and also to a lesser extent with the 225. What I've found with both cars is that once the niggles are sorted they are pretty solid cars. My 172 got seriously abused, trakced the full works and nothing ever went wrong with it, yet when I first bought it I split a driveshaft. I think renault main problem is quality control as they seem to have a few "friday afternooners" that make it all the way to a customer without being fully quality checked

Like on the meg when I first got it it made a loud baning noise under braking, when I took it in it had loose chassis bolts! Again just very basic quality control that was missed.

Good thing about renaults is at least you havent paid an arm and a leg for the privalege, people are just as likley to get faults on Mercs or BMs or Audis etc. Perseverence is sometimes needed (espesially with the dealer network) but with a list of faults like that I think you have a good case to take to renault uk, make a reference to this post too so they know potential customers are keeping an eye out for their response.

both 172`s ive owned can/have taken insane beating which say a 1.2/1.4 Sturdy low engine demand VAG mobile couldnt match, can i reiterate serious beatings like screaming it for thousands of miles. its just niggling issues at first even if it was a big nigling issue, once sorted they are tough as fook and for the price performance its a given that with a new reno you have a few probs at first. having said that my MKII172 of old didnt have one problem
