car went to the garage today to have the door sensor replaced (drivers side), the reason being that the car would not open unless i used the fob.
my father had a day off so he took the car as i was working, anyway they replaced the sensor and the handle now opens but they found out that it doesn,t unlock when u put your hand behind the handle so they put it on the computer and the computer said the car thinks its a 5 door and cos there is no doors at the back it see,s it as a fault and dissables this function .
they tried to sort this problem but couldn,t so they are seeking advice from the head reno to see how to fix this.

i didn,t know thats how the sensor works , i have always pulled the handle twice to open it

what u all reckon , i say typical renault

Angle grinder and a few wiring mods and we'd soon have it as a 5 door mate. When do you want it doing?

They cant be trusted with a diagnosis machine let alone something that requires an element of skill to use so how an earth do they think they can fix it if the "computer says no"

Most of them are as useful as tits on fish!

If you have handfree fitted then the doors should unlock when you put your hand behind the handle and break the sensor.

If they do not unlock in this way then one or more of the infrared sensors are faulty.
Yes they will open when you pull the the handle but that is not the correct way they operate.

As for the 3 door being a 5 door.. I have seen this problem before. The clip showed a faulty Nearside sensor being faulty. Was replaced and the fault cleared. However the system would still not operate correctly. After some diagnosis, I found the the Offside door sensor was dragging the signal line to the UCH down and confusing it. Replaced the sensor and normal operation was resumed.

I find that I sometimes have to pull the hands twice but I put that down to me being too quick as if i'm a little slower it unlocks itself before I pull the handle.

JamieMac: I don't take comments like that to heart so don't worry. There are some very incompetant techs/dealers out there..

You just gotta read some other posts on the forums to see that..

You have to pull the handle twice if the car has been locked for more than 3 days, read it in the manual when I was bored in work!
