Water again!

Think there's been a coule of posts about this problem before but i'm after a bit more info.

I've recently found water in both door pockets in my 225. Not too much but enough to go  ! Someone mentioned that the water could be getting there from round the speaker. Not sure how that works but how is the water getting into the car in the first place?

All the seals on the windows and doors look to be in good shape. Is this a problem that the stealers would be able to fix (they are a bit inept) or am i going to have to put up with it?

Cheers

It is usually a problem with aftermarket speakers being fitted and the damaged caused to the waterproof membrane.

Have the door speakers been changed at any time

No, they are standard. Pulled the speaker cover off at the weekend and the speaker seal looks ok. Couldn't see any water behind it either. The water only ever seems to be in the door pocket, no trace of it any where else.
take it back to renault they repair it for you :D

Car is booked into the garage to be dried out!
Nick - what happened with this issue in the end - im having the same problem and dont know what to do.
This is a known problem with the meg, I had a bit when I put my speakers in as the crossovers on the back stick out more the the originals. It is something to do with the plastic sheet in the door, also it is common for the holes that let the water run through to get blocked.
yeah it seems i have no plastic sheet at all! i believe that must be the fault of a previous owner perhaps??

so need to knock some kind of plastic sheet protection up then i suppose?

i tried to look into the door cavity to see where the drainage holes were but couldnt see where they were. although despite watching quite a rapid rate of dripping inside the door cavity there was no collection of water at the bottom so must be draining away. do you know where it drains away to?
Not 100% most other cars work using this system though, but the difference being there is a plastic layer to stop water getting in, I dont have this at all on both doors, but water does not collect so I am not too worried and it was frost getting into the speaker connections so just put duck tape on them to waterproof them.
oh right so you havent got this plastic sheet either? so maybe they dont all come with that?

mine has only leaked twice in the year and few mths i have owned it - and nothing else gets wet and nothing seems effected.

yet recently my headlamp bulb, then newly fitted HID bulb and sidelight LED has gone in the passenger side (where the leak is) so didnt know if that was connected. LED comes on accasionally - so might be an unrelated connection prob but i wondered whether the headlamp bulb problem was related to the water seeing as it happened after the leak?
hi guys,
well if nobody sure where the water comes in then i'll help. I have been getting loads since i fitted focal components. and there no plastic membrane either. the water is coming down the window and inside the door skins. running on to the back of the speaker and catching at the bottom. the water will come round the speaker seal and run right in the corner. you can't see it trickle in to the door pocket because it runs down the crack (towards the engine end) in to the pocket.

I sat oout in the car for a couple of hours last week when it p!ssed down. and saw what was happening.

Plastic sheeting is your best bet. but i'm working with FRP and GRP at the moment (fiberglass) so can't offer anymore help.

thank you bluestar :D ahhhh that sounds exactly what must be going on for me at the mo.

yeah am gonna try do some kind of plastic sheeting experiment and see what happens. i was worried that my meggy was at risk of damage due to not having this plastic water shield thing - but if other peopl havent got it then maybe mine isnt so bad.
ive got the same prob but just on mr drivers side door tray! Took it to renault about 2 weeks ago, they claimed to have fixed it but does still leak a bit! Ive got all standard speakers.!
just recently had the whole door replaced hun. and ther was nothing renault could recal off the showed it needed a membrane. the car door panel is designed so that it covers the back of the speaker. after market speakers are bigger due to the higher power consumption, therefor increased size of the magnet. which sticks out too far in the door.( even if it is the same diameter cone). I'ver also upgraded the wiring throught the car and this was another problem i noticed. just make sure the wire loom hasn't been stretched or moved so that it comes down. causing water to catch on it and run into the speaker. try and rearange it so the speaker wire comes up from the bottom.

I just covered the speaker connections with duck tape and seems to have sorted this out.
Miltage - did they say what they did to sort the problem?

Bluestar - my speakers are standard but i first noticed the problem when i parked my car with the passenger side up on the curb. now i have watched how it drips inside the door - i realise that parking it with passenger side on the curb meant the the angle of the drip changed and could catch the back of the speaker - so dripped onto it as you described earlier.

luckily my speaker has not been damaged and have taken it out now to prevent further probs but obviously needs sorting.
Don't take your speaker and grill out when it's really cold over night!!! i did that last week with the 3 days of cold weather we had. I don't know what temp it was during the night but at 0930 in the morning it was still -6 outside. all the water in my door pockets froze overnight and a can of red bull split on the passenger foot well. the cold was coming through the door. :eek:hmy:bit of a mess!

Make sure the speakers aree the right way up mate so that water doesn't collect and run down on the wireing loom.

oh no did it?

well have had them out last night and night before eek! yeah my water feature had frozen a couple of times before - have cleared water out of door pocket now though.

im gonna go and check how my meggy is doing now lol
the funniest thing is when you pick someone up (passenger) and they put their wallet down the side in the door pocket. or not so funny when it's their mobil! lol Many times i've pulled out soggy notes
