Following on from my "95RON petrol for winter driving post" I was wondering what everyone runs their 225 on. Do you fill up with the manufacturers recommended 98RON fuels? Do you stick to one fuel supplier? etc

95 ron all the wway for me never noticed any benefit in either the 225 or my old 172, my personal view is that optimax is pretty much just a marketing exercise although I'm sure some people will disagree. I know it made no difference to my 172 1/4 mile times anyway

There was a good article in last months evo comparing the 95 to 98 and tesco 99 RON fuels. They compared a new golf gti and a new m5 on a rolling road. The higher ron fuels gave on average 10bhp more and a small bit more troque. The gti came in with a max power of 212 on bp ultimate and as low as about 200 on standard tesco stuff. They also had a really expensive racing fuel which seemed to really sweet but it was about £3 a litre!!

Nevr noticed much difference in this car between 95 and 98 ron, though i do thry and do 2 95's to 1 x Optimax when i can, always been worried about cabon deposits etc, used to always swear by Optimax in my old car made such a difference to the performance, although you do pay through the nose for it.

I only ever used Optimax in my 172 and since i've only put petrol in the Megane its the same there as well! lol

I plan on sticking with the Optimax but purely coz I'm 2 minutes from a Shell garage.

Some people swear by higher RON fuel - And usually tuners give power figs based on using them.

I reckon it depends on personal preference and more importantly your budget...... But what's wrong with dropping in some Octane booster if you anticipate some 'enthusiastic' driving...???
