Please tell us about the stereo upgrades you have carried out

Richard
I've kept the H/U standard but upgraded the fronts to Alpine 5.25" spilts and and alpine 4 ch amp with a 10" sub in the rear. Don't have pics though (yet)

How does that active sub sound ?

I just ordered a CDA-9855R, focal 130V slims, and have a K2 5 inch sub that i am going mount under the drivers seat for a little more bass, and a small Alpine 4 x 50 amp for under the passenger seat.

Like you i need the boot an dont want to go to crazy on the stereo.

The Alpine unit looks hot ! ..very nice

Alex do you have the standard headunit or Cabasse? and are you running the dension ICE link or FM link.

I've wanted to get the Ice link for a while but no-one can tell me if it is compatible with my Cabasse? :? :?

If it's the FM link whats the sound like ?

Sorry for all the Questions

Bog standard headunit.

I use the itrip and basically its a small fm transmitter that site ontop of the ipod. You set the frequency you wanna broadcast at and then tune the radio into that frequency.

:)

its made by griffin technology but there are loads of alternatives.

there is a little amount of static sometimes. in the citys its a little more challenging......well in london it is with the pirate radio stations.

All you need to do is find a radio station with nothing on it and your sorted.

... Hi Richard. Im struggling with the stereo upgrade... My 225 (uk spec) came with the 6cd changer + 1 set up. and the sound is positively crap! I really want to upgrade but without changing the head unit (forbidden by wife!) Already bought a set of Alpine E-Series (the cheapo direct OEM replacement line). Only managed to change the front door speakers (not tweeters nor rear door units yet) In your opinion, the crappy OEM sound is the HU fault or the speakers?

PLEASE... Need your advice!

PD: Was installing the amp much of a hassle? Im looking at an infinity amplifed sub (basslink)...

CHEERS MATE!

I've just put a dension ice link in.
Its wicked you can control the ipod through your stereo and the sound is really clear. You can even set it up so it acts like a multi changer so you set 5 different playlists and they act as 5 different discs or just browse through the ipod.

I swapped the headunit and kept the speakers and the sound is better, so I'd say the standard head aint upto much. Just need a sub..
I thought so.... But promised wife I would not change the HU. She loves the "way it looks on the dash" ?!?!?! (how crazy is that!) Anyway... My plan is to change the rear speakers for the Alpine co-axials I bought already, install the tweeters, how? Dunno (they're tiny compared to the OEM´s - they just fall thru the whole) and then buy a sub... And see what happens... if sound is still crap... Ill guess Ill have another board meeting with wife...

Thanks for the advice!
