wheel width question...

1486 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  andy bassett
ok so the stock 225 has 18" x 7.5 wheels.
the cup/Trophy and presumably the F1 have 18" x 8 wheels for extra grip.

could i fit aftermarket wheels with (ive found loads) 18" x 8.5 or 18" x 9 and would it make handling worse or just stick the wheels out flush with the arches like spacers do. :?

thanks

IMO, wide tyres on the rear are only beneficial on RWD cars for getting power down, and putting wider than 8" on the front will further highlight torque steer and tramline like a bastard! Probably look the bollocks tho!
18" alloys in a 8,8.5 are like you say easy to find, but finding a 8 x 18" alloy in a 5/108 with a 68 offset in bloody impossible, the minimum pdc you can go for is a 52 offset and they still stick out to far, iv bin to over 30 alloy wheel company for different wheels and thet are hard to find, yes k-tec sell them but they are a horrid wheel and are a 52 offset.

even antera made a one of set for ellite wheels in essex to fit mine with a 54 offset, put them on the car and they were about 2mm from the edge of the front arch, rear was ok but the front was terrible, even the shop thought so and sent them back to antera statting they were no good.

r-tek near hatfield have also tried many a wheel on mine to. got a lexani 20" wheel to fit the back with a 5/108 and a 50 offset with a 225/35/20" tyre on but clipped the brembos on the front, big shame as they looked huge and fitted a treat.

bottom line is alloys for the 225 are a bastard to find un less you are not fussed on the couple od designs out there.

the trophy whees are great and the new F1 allloys in black also look good

For something a little different; someone on here has painted their standard 225 wheels anthracite - this also looks really good (like a bigger version of the 182 Cup wheels) and will be pretty rare to see.
yea standard 225 wheels in shiny black would look good especially without the center caps so it looks military

they did the 17" clio wheels in both light and dark shades.
what size you reckon i would get on my car :?:
i have a small Dialemma myself about wheels.

Ive got 3 alloys that are a lil scratched to buggery. either i get them restored or i replace them.....the replacement options are the standars/cup wheels/F1 when they become available.

Hmmmmmm

Will a 225/40/18 fit on the 235/40/18 rim?
cup ones you can get now, the F1 wheels which are the same as the cup ones might look to much on a black 225 as they very polished, the normal cup finish is alot better
yeah....but i dont wanna have to buy new tyres atm......last set cost me £500

How much do you think you could get the cup alloys for ...
the standard 225 tyres will fit the cup ones, so no need to spend extra on tyres
