Bought my 2007 LY R26 18 days ago from a Renault main dealer, full Renault history with 34K. The drive home was about 60 miles. The following morning i noticed a small puddle on the floor. To be honest i just thought it might have been some standing water from where they valeted it, and it had now dripped.
Since buying the car i have done two reasonable sized journeys approx 100 miles, and my usual drive to work is about 7/8 miles each way. I have noticed a small puddle on one or two other previous occasions as the car is garaged away from the elements.
Over the weekend i thought i would just check the levels. To my horror there was only the smallest amount of coolant left in the expansion tank! Like a table spoon full. Obviously i have not driven the car with a low coolant level. I have pressure tested the system to 2.0 bar on a cold engine and it seems to hold the pressure.
I have topped up the coolant level to max with Renault coolant and bled the system via the bleed valve on the heater hose. Then took the car for a spirited drive to warm the engine up totally for apprx 20 miles. The following morning the level was below the minimum mark!
I have now topped up the coolant again and since driven the car to work, the 7/8 miles that it is, and yet again it dropped to half way when i checked the levels on a cold engine.
Over all i have put in 2 litres of coolant. The leak seems to fall on the nearside of the engine away from the water pump, but from what i can tell without having it up on a ramp yet, is that the water collecting below on the floor seems to be from were the engine and gearbox meet. I am aware that there is a electric coolant pump above, this seems to look dry and so do all the associated pipes above.
Is this a common problem? or has anyone else had similar issues?
Any ideas or thoughts welcome
